Lever harpist, Amelia Romano began her music journey on lever harp at age nine, with Bay Area harpist, Diana Stork. She continued her harp studies with Dr. Cheryl Ann Fulton, while completing a Bachelors at UC Berkeley.
Currently a freelance electric and acoustic lever harpist and singer/songwriter in the San Francisco Bay Area, her music influences draw from her year working at Ntonga Music School: Playing for Change Foundationin in South Africa, and studies of Latin and Folk music in the Bay Area with locally based Paraguayan Latin/Jazz harpist, Carlos Reyes, and Venezuelan maestro, Angel Tolosa. Her music fuses Latin, Jazz, Folk and world music styles. She is a founding member of two local bands, StringQuake and WorldSync.
An active performer in the San Francisco Bay Area, Amelia Romano has performed for wedding ceremonies, parties, memorial services, celebrations and other special events for over a decade. An electrifying trio, StringQuake brings a new sound to today's world music scene. Amelia Romano, electric lever harpist, and Misha Khalikulov, cellist, began collaborating in November 2011. The group became StringQuake in 2012 and was soon completed with Josh Mellinger on percussion. StringQuake draws inspiration from the music traditions of the Americas, Greece, Africa, India, European classical, and the musical masters who have emerged from every corner of the globe. The groups unique instrumentation, original compositions and dynamic arrangements give spice to their sound.
